HAIL, TRAVELER.

Welcome to the Official Ultima V: Lazarus website. Within these walls ye shall find many stories of our great land, Britannia, and how after the fall of the Triad of Evil, she came to know a prosperous time filled with enlightenment and the flourishing of the eight sacred Virtues.

2010-08-08 00:00:00
by Zephyr

The Project Britannia team has taken over management of this website for the time being; we won't be making any major changes, but the Forum link points to the new forum, as the old forum is sadly (as most of you already know) defunct. Please report problems with the Lazarus site on the Project Britannia forum.

NEW LAZARUS WEBSITE

by Tiberius

As most of you have certainly noticed, we've trimmed and slimmed our web site. It's simpler and cleaner--and, more importantly, it centers around a product that is, after many years, complete. We hope you appreciate the new look and feel of the web site, and make certain to download Ultima V: Lazarus, version 1.2.
LAZARUS FANS ROCK!

Awesome Xbow!

I've just received a special Britannian crossbow (complete with serpent logo) hand-made by David "Iolo" Watson himself. This is the best and most thoughtful present I've received in a very long time. A huge THANK YOU to all of you who went in together to get this for me, and even taking the extra time to get Lord British to sign it.

Team Lazarus fans and all my old friends at Horizons Tavern, you ROCK!!! :)

LAZARUS MOD TOOLS RELEASED!
2006-04-09 21:45:00
by Tiberius

Who are these crazy people who encourage modding a MOD? That would be Team Lazarus. :)

I'm writing this evening to let you all know that the Lazarus Modder Pack and three Team-Lazarus-created sample mods are now available for your downloading enjoyment.

The LAZARUS MODDER PACK is a set of tools created by Team Lazarus over the course of developing Lazarus. For those of you who would like to take Lazarus a step further with mods (or bug fixes) of your own, these tools will make that much easier.

The LAZARUS FONT MOD will switch the Lazarus dialogue font into something less medieval but more readable, for those of you having trouble reading your conversations with NPCs.

The LAZARUS DIFFICULTY MOD will increase the difficulty of Easy mode so as to make it more challenging, but still easier than Normal.

Finally, the LAZARUS PORTRAIT REPLACEMENT MOD will let you create your own custom Avatar portraits (you must have Photoshop to use this one).

It is our hope that this modder pack and these sample mods will help you, the community, to keep Lazarus alive for a long time to come.

Thanks to TheHawk for hosting. :)

LAZARUS V1.20 NOW AVAILABLE!
2006-03-31 14:39:00
by Tiberius

At long last, it is my great pleasure to announce the release of the final-cut Lazarus build, version 1.20! :)

This is it, folks--we've fixed the bugs, we've added lots of new cool stuff, we've shuffled around secrets so that the game will still be fresh for those of you who already played 1.0 or 1.1, and we've added a shiny new level of polish and combat balance tweaks across the whole world.

We've fixed every problem that we (and our army of hired guns) could find, and we've added a ton of new content that I'm sure you're going to love. :)

There's only one thing we've taken OUT of the game, and that's the spell "Blink." Now don't cry, I love the spell as much as you do, but there were some technical problems with it that unfortunately proved entirely impossible to solve. Thus we had to remove it from the game for v1.20, which is meant to be a basically bug-free experience. The few areas in the game where you previously HAD to use Blink have been altered to allow for alternate means of transportation.

To those of you who love Blink enough to risk the bugginess that it often causes, we've created an OPTIONAL AND ENTIRELY UNSUPPORTED PATCH for RE-ACTIVATING BLINK. You're more than welcome to use it if you feel the risk is worth it, but please don't ask us for tech support if you do. ;-D

Now, without further ado...

You'll notice that only the PC English version is currently available. The Mac English version should follow in about a week, and the German and French translations are coming along nicely, though they'll likely be another 2-3 months.

Also, you'll notice that we don't have many mirrors yet for v1.20. If you're already mirroring an older version of Lazarus, we ask that you please take down your old links (including links to our old 1.1 patch) and put this up instead. And if you're not currently a mirror but would like to start hosting Lazarus v1.20, drop us a line (tiberius@planetdungeonsiege.com).

Happy questing! :)

LAZARUS V1.20 RELEASE ALMOST READY!

by Tiberius

We're almost done with the final (1.20) release of Lazarus, folks. :) Late last night I uploaded the 1.17 test build for our new army of volunteer testers (a big thanks goes to all of you who are helping us out!).

Give us a week or two for stress testing and fixing whatever bugs we've missed in our internal testing, then it'll be available to the public at long last! :)

U6P DEMO NOW AVAILABLE!
2006-02-20 20:11:00
by Tiberius

As many of you are aware, there's another project that's been in production for a while now which is built upon PROJECT BRITANNIA, the same tech/art core that Lazarus is built on (we worked together to build that). The Ultima VI Project, sometimes called Archon (U6P for short), is an attempt to "retell" Ultima VI in much the same way that Lazarus is a remake of Ultima V--like Lazarus, it's all in the Dungeon Siege engine.

Anyway, to the point: U6P has just released their big Milestone 1 demo build! U6P is quite a bit different from Lazarus in many respects, being more of a "creative reinterpretation" than an "embellished remake," but having played the new demo myself I can tell you it's very cool, well polished, and contains some nifty stuff that's not found in Lazarus.

If you're starving for some more Ultima goodness while waiting on Lazarus build 1.2, I highly recommend you CHECK IT OUT and have a few solid hours of fun! :)

LAZARUS IN CGW
2006-02-16 23:05:00
by Tiberius

I am very pleased to report that a full page review of Lazarus appears in the new (March 2006) issue of Computer Gaming World magazine! :)

Our review is "only" 2.5 stars out of 5, I'm sorry to say, but this review is based on the 1.1A build of the game, which is admittedly very buggy. The review seems to boil down to the reviewer (Matthew Chase) having a great time, but hating the bugs, something we can definitely empathize with. The highlighted quote is "I can't tear myself away from this game--but it just doesn't work the way it should."

Well, we're extremely glad that you can't tear yourself away, and even more glad to tell you that in a few more short weeks, the final (1.2) build of the game will be out and the agony of bugs will be gone at last. :)

If you'd rather see it, pick up the March 2006 issue of CGW! :)

P.S.- After giving five and a half years of my life to this project, I must admit that seeing a review of anything less than 80% rather pains me. However, that said, the review is spot on when it says that we've got a great game marred by some very annoying bugs--since 99.9% of those bugs will be released with our final build in just a few weeks, that lessens the sting a lot for me.

And I'm sorry, but I can't resist mentioning this: Despite being an entirely freeware mod built by volunteers with zero budget on a 3-year-old game engine which wasn't designed for this sort of game, we either matched or outscored 5 of the 8 commercial games reviewed in the same issue. :)

Boo-yah!

LAZARUS IN THE ESCAPIST
2006-02-08 06:01:00
by Tiberius

First of all, don't panic, we're still hard at work on the 1.2 (final release) patch and it should be ready in just a few more weeks.

Secondly, here's something cool: Lazarus was mentioned in the new article of my favorite webzine, THE ESCAPIST.

Be sure to check it out! :)

As promised, a Team Lazarus polo shirt is on the way. :)

Everybody give Cavon a big hand!
